Cincy North Region has access to world-class care
While nobody enjoys needing a doctor, if you do get sick or require medical care, Cincinnati’s northern suburbs offer access to the best care in Ohio, if not the entire nation. The area is home to five major health care organizations: UC Health, Kettering Health, Premier Health, TriHealth and Mercy Health, each with major campuses and facilities.
UC Health’s University of Cincinnati Medical Center downtown and the West Chester Hospital have once again received national recognition from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for their commitment to prioritizing quality stroke care for patients throughout the region and beyond. In addition, the UC Medical Center received the 2023 Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll and Advanced Therapy, while the West Chester Hospital received the 2023 Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement with Target: Stroke Honor Roll. This marks the ninth year that UC Medical Center has received Gold Plus recognition and the sixth year for West Chester Hospital.

“Our Comprehensive Stroke Center team of physicians and clinicians take pride in providing the most groundbreaking treatments available to patients in our Tristate region. We see success stories in the care of our stroke patients each and every day,” says Dr. Pooja Khatri, co-director of the Stroke Center of Excellence at the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute and professor of neurology and director of the Vascular Neurology Division within the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine at the UC College of Medicine.
Kettering Health’s stroke program has also been recognized by the American Heart Association, with its Hamilton, Middletown, Washington Township, Soin Medical Center, Preble and Miamisburg locations awarded the Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite. Those locations also made the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.
“Providing quality care is our top priority,” says Megan Smith, neuroscience manager at Kettering Health. “We’re proud to receive this recognition from the American Heart Association as it further demonstrates our commitments to excellence and supporting the health of our communities.”
“Receiving high-quality care as quickly as possible is critical, especially after a stroke when every minute matters,” adds Bruce Chan, Kettering Health executive director of Brain & Spine. “Our participation in Get With The Guidelines ensures that we’re giving our patients the best possible chances for survival and recovery.”
Premier Health’s Atrium Medical Center has served the Greater Cincinnati area from its Middletown campus since 1917, offering a wide range of advanced innovative care from its 260-acre campus. It has also been recognized by leading national organizations for its quality care.

The Atrium Medical Center is also Warren County’s only Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center, providing immediate assessment and care for seriously injured or ill patients, and the only accredited Chest Pain Center in Warren County. It also offers maternity, cancer, orthopedics, heart care and much more. Atrium Medical Center was named among America’s 100 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades.
This summer, The Christ Hospital Health Network and Premier Health entered into an innovative collaborative partnership that will enable more patients in the region access to highly specialized cardiovascular care close to home through joint efforts of leading experts at both organizations.
The partnership focuses on specialized treatments for complex cardiovascular diseases providing clinicians, patients and families with a more seamless experience across the continuity of care.“This partnership exemplifies the mission of both organizations to improve the health of the communities that we serve,” says Debbie Hayes, president and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network. “We are excited by the opportunity to collaborate with Premier Health, enabling both organizations to explore creative ways to bring valuable and scarce resources to the patients and families that we serve in a fiscally responsible manner.”
