Local fruits, vegetables, baked goods and much more available at farmers markets

Ahhh, the smell of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cut flowers and baked goods, along with many other items, are a big draw at the area’s farmers markets. Now is high time for the summer harvest of many edibles throughout the region. If you’ve never checked out a farmers market, now is the time—and there’s probably one near you.

Boone County Farmers Market
6028 Camp Ernst Road, Burlington, Kentucky
Operated by the Boone County Farmers Market Association as an educational program at the Boone County Cooperative Extension Service. The market consists of 50 member farm families, with all fruits, vegetables, flowers and other items grown exclusively in Northern Kentucky. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in May through October, except summer hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day. Market reopens the day after Thanksgiving with hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily (weather permitting).

Brown’s Family Farm Market
11620 Hamilton-Cleves Road, Hamilton
Three seasons of locally grown produce (spring, summer, fall). 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Findlay Market
1801 Race St., Over-the-Rhine
The market’s website calls itself “Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market and one of Cincinnati’s most cherished institutions, welcoming more than 1 million visitors each year.” Market hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Farmers Market: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. Sundays.

Liberty Farm Market
5850 Princeton Road, Liberty Township
Produce, beef and wellness products. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays.

Milford Farmers Market
1025 Lila Ave. (U.S. Route 50), Milford
Variety of vendors offers produce, honey, flowers, nuts, herbs and sweet treats. 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays from June through October.

Newtown Farm Market
3950 Round Bottom Road, Anderson Township
Fresh fruits and vegetables, in-season produce, old-fashioned deli, custard, Amish bakery goods, domestic and specialty beer and wine, candles, handcrafted furniture and other items. 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays (deli closes at 5:30 each evening).

Shaw Farms Market

Wide variety of fruits, vegetables and Amish cheese, cottage hams, bacon and canned fruits and vegetables. In-season sweet corn picked daily; fall selection of locally grown apples. 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays, weather permitting.

Loveland Farmers’ Market

Organized in 2010 for local farmers, cottage-industry vendors and artisans to sell their products directly to Loveland-area residents while providing opportunities to learn more about food and products directly from the source. Weekly entertainment for all and activities for kids in the Kids’ Patch. 3 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays in May through October.

Blue Ash Farmers Market

Seasonal fruits and veggies, aromatic baked breads, spices, gourmet treats, crafty creations and more from several dozen vendors. 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays from May 12 through Sept. 29.

Fairfield Farmers Market

Northside Farmers Market

Sayler Park Farmer’s Market

Lebanon Farmers Market

Locally grown or produced vegetables, fruit, baked goods, jams, meat, eggs, body care, flowers and other artisan items. 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays in mid-May through mid-October.

Madeira Farmers Market
Madeira Silverwood Presbyterian Church, 8000 Miami Ave., Madeira
Pastries, produce, baked breads, probiotics, sauces, honey, meats, eggs, spices and more. Live music, occasional food trucks and some kids programming this season. Outdoor market is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays from May 6 to Oct. 28.

Anderson Township Farmers’ Market

Local fruits and vegetables, baked goods and more. 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays from May 15 through Oct. 9.

Covington Farmers Market

Deerfield Farmers’ Market

Started in 2003, it was one of only five markets in the Cincinnati area at the time, according to its website. Summer market: 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays in May through October. Winter market: 10 to 11 a.m. third Saturday of each month from November through April.
