The Mason Dance Center teaches children dance and life lessons
Most know the classic saying, “Dance like no one’s watching.” No place strives to inspire a passion for dance, by yourself or for an audience, like Mason Dance Center.
“At Mason Dance Center, we believe the benefits of dance are immense,” says Bobbi Wyatt, owner and director at Mason Dance Center. “Our students of all ages are having fun, moving to music and are part of a community. They are engaging with an art form that is rich in history and tradition and is, at the same time, exciting and dynamic.”
And while Mason Dance Center strives to introduce, teach and engage children with dance, it also aims to teach them much more. “We believe that teaching dance is not just about the steps,” says Wyatt. “We believe there are many life lessons that carry throughout their lives to be learned in dance class. Passion, persistence, perseverance and compassion are just as important to us as a perfect plie and tendu. We truly care about the whole child and I think that shows at our school.”
There are a number of class options available for students from age 3 through high school, and even class options for adults. Younger dancers can take combo classes while ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip-hop and musical theater dance are offered for school-age dancers. Adults can also take hip-hop classes.
The variety and quality of dance classes available at Mason Dance Center landed it a spot as a charter member of “More Than Just Great Dancing” affiliation of select studios dedicated to quality curriculum, teacher training, best management practices and community involvement. “We are also charter members of I.D.E.A., the International Dance Entrepreneurs Association, dedicated to promoting all that is good in dance education,” adds Wyatt.
Mason Dance Center has made a name for itself in the North. The facility is a nine-time winner of Best of the North in Children’s Dance Instruction. Additionally, its faculty regularly participates in seminars and workshops including the Ohio Dance Festival and Miami Valley Dance Teachers Association Convention, as well as various specialized trainings at the Rhee Gold DanceLife Retreat Center outside of Boston, in order to further their own skills, development and teaching practices.
The life lessons taught at Mason Dance Center aim to help children to think about how they can impact the world.
“We encourage our dancers to think about how they can be agents of change both in the local and global community,” adds Wyatt.
When parents bring their children to Mason Dance Center, Wyatt says they can rest assured that children will be taught age-appropriate music, movement and costume choices, as they are always the standard at the center.
The Mason Dance Center is looking forward to continuing to reach students in the region. It recently hosted its 20th annual Nutcracker performance, from which the ticket proceeds benefit the Mason High School After Prom. To-date, the Mason Dance Center has raised more than $100,000 for the Mason High School After Prom. It also supports events by the Mason Food Pantry.
