From Moana to Minions, four outdoor movie screenings for your family this weekend

The heat wave sweeping through Cincinnati will keep many families indoors this weekend. But if you’re looking to get in some family time outdoors, an outdoor movie is a good bet—most screenings don’t start until the sun sets and the temperature drops, and several of them will have frozen treats available for purchase on-site.  

Here are a few of the movies showing this weekend in the North. 

Jumanji at Cottell Park 
Friday, July 28 
Sundown (activities start 8 p.m.) 
Deerfield Township Parks and Recreation will screen the 1995 Robin Williams classic at Cottell Park. The movie starts at sundown, but arrive at 8 p.m. to stake out your spot and participate in pre-movie activities—including jungle-themed games, Kona Ice and animal fun with Cool Critters Outreach. 5847 Irwin Simpson Road, Mason. 

Minions: The Rise of Gru at Colerain Park 
Friday, July 28 (activities start 8:30 p.m.) 
Sundown 
Colerain’s Sizzling Summer Entertainment Series kicks off every Friday with karaoke and other activities at 8:30 p.m. Check back later in the summer for showing of Sonic 2 (Aug. 11) and Family Camp (Aug. 25). 4725 Springdale Road, Colerain Township. 

Moana at Summit Park 
Friday, July 28 
Sundown 
The last movie in Summit Park’s community-selected summer movie series is Disney’s Moana. The movie starts at dusk, with free popcorn available on the lawn. 4335 Glendale Milford Road, Blue Ash. 

D.C. League of Super-Pets at Village Green Park 
Thursday, July 27 
7 p.m. (activities start 6 p.m.) 
The Fairfield Fire Department will be on-site at Thursday’s screening of D.C. League of Super-Pets for pre-movie fun. Food trucks at Thursday’s event will include Amaizing Grace Kettle Corn, Hometown Swirls, ShowDogs HotDogs and Twisted Greek. 301 Wessel Drive, Fairfield.
