Learn more about the region’s animals and habitats to celebrate National Wildlife Week

This week is National Wildlife Week, and there might be no better city than Cincinnati to learn about wildlife and conservation. In fact, in 2019, the National Wildlife Federation named Cincinnati the No. 6 city for wildlife in the country.

If you or your family want to celebrate the week finding out more about our region’s wildlife, try one of these local events.

Garden Adventures: Earth Day
10 to 11:15 a.m. April 6 and 9
Highfield Discovery Garden at Glenwood Gardens, 10397 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati
$8 nonmember child, $6 nonmember adult, $7 nonmember child and include one adult with registration
Recommended for children 2-5, the program teaches kids about nature with crafts, a walk and some animal ambassadors. Registration required.

Turtle Talk
11 to 11:30 a.m. April 8
The Campground Boat Ramp Shelter House at Caesar Creek State Park, 4006 Pioneer Village Road, Waynesville
Free
Attendees will learn from a park naturalist about the many turtles that call the park home.

Raptor Feeding
12:30 to 1 p.m. April 8
The Nature Center at Caesar Creek State Park, 4006 Pioneer Village Road, Waynesville

Sorry, dinosaur enthusiasts, we’re talking about birds of prey, not the prehistoric creatures. But the local raptors are plenty interesting on their own. Learn what they eat and how we can help conserve their habitat during this program.

Amazing Amphibians
4 to 6:30 p.m. April 8
The Nature Center at East Fork Lake State Park, 3294 Elklick Road, Bethel
Free
Families can learn about and get close to the region’s amphibians, including a bullfrog.

Pollinator Garden Workday
9 to 11 a.m. April 9
Rowe Woods, Cincinnati Nature Center, 4949 Tealtown Road, Milford
$5 members, $11 non-members (includes admission)
Families with children 5 and up can learn to properly plant native plants that attract pollinators. The center will supply all necessary garden tools, but registration is required.

Nature Encounters
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 9
Trailside Nature Center at Burnett Woods, 3251 Brookline Ave., Cincinnati

Occurring every Saturday in March through December, this weekly series introduces families to their local nature and wildlife with activities, scavenger hunts, crafts and more.
