Tall Tales Take the Stage

 Tall Tales Take the Stage

Paul Strickland, Artistic Director of the Cincinnati Storytelling Festival

The Cincinnati Storytelling Festival brings comedy, horror and Japanese folktales to Know Theatre this November

The Cincinnati Storytelling Festival is back for its sixth year this year Nov. 12-14. The annual festival brings together local and national storytellers for three days of humor, frightening stories, fairy tales and more.

Kevin Kling

This year’s three storytellers are Paul Strickland, the artistic director of the Cincinnati Storytelling Festival and teller of original tall tales; Kevin Kling, a writer of many plays for children and family audiences; and Motoko, who brings to life a repertoire of Asian folktales.

“Kevin Kling is the first professional storyteller I ever saw, and he remains one of my favorites,” said Strickland in a press release. “Kevin combines the highest level of craft with an incredible relatability, and he’s also one of the best joke writers I’ve ever encountered. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to share Kevin’s work with Cincinnati audiences.”

Motoko

Strickland added, “Motoko is a fantastic teller of fantastical tales, particularly folktales from her native Japan. And while it’s impressive that she appeared on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, I promise you’ll be even more impressed by the brilliant artistry she brings to her performances, from the expressive movement to the delightful quirkiness of the stories themselves.”

Each day features different stories—with Friday focusing on comedy and Saturday on horror—so each performance promises to be different. The shows are for adults and children 13 and up expect for this Saturday afternoon show, which is for children and families.

All performances will be held at the Know Theatre of Cincinnati and tickets are on sale at the Cincinnati Storytelling Festival website.
