Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are full of festive holiday lights
The Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region will light up once again as the holiday season kicks off, with light displays, festive music and community celebrations drawing visitors from across the Tri-State. From the well-established PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo to newer events along the river in Newport, the area has no shortage of ways to experience the Christmas spirit.
PNC Festival of Lights
Now in its 43rd year, the PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden remains one of the city’s most popular holiday traditions. The event transforms the zoo into a winter wonderland with more than 4 million LED lights, glowing animal lanterns and synchronized light shows.
Families can visit Santa Claus, enjoy s’mores around open fires and see costumed characters wandering the grounds. The event runs nightly from mid-November through early January.

Winter Nights & River Lights
Across the Ohio River, the Winter Nights & River Lights display at the Purple People Bridge and Newport on the Levee offers a free, walk-through experience perfect for families and couples alike. Thousands of twinkling lights illuminate the pedestrian bridge and riverfront area, shining against views of both downtown Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Running from mid-November through early January, the event features a massive Christmas tree, festive music and nearby shops and restaurants serving holiday treats. It’s become a favorite for visitors seeking a relaxed, scenic alternative to the larger paid attractions.

Light Up the Fair
For those who prefer to stay warm in their cars, Light Up the Fair at the Boone County Fairgrounds delivers one of the region’s few drive-through light experiences. The two-mile route features millions of lights synchronized to classic holiday songs broadcast through your car radio.
This year’s event begins mid-November, with tickets available online and at the gate.
