Take time to enjoy the season at one of these upcoming events
Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy Cincinnati events. The arts scene is booming, and one of the biggest events of the year—BLINK—is just around the corner. Check out these events and festivals happening around the Queen City this fall.
Ohio Renaissance Festival
This big event is happening every weekend in October and includes a 35-acre recreated 16th century English village showcasing more than 400 years of fun in just one visit. There are more than 150 world-class artisans selling their wares during the festival. You’ll also see knights jousting, swordsmen dueling, pirates, nobles, peasants, jugglers and plenty of themed shows. The themed weekends boast more than 130 daily performances, more than 160 shops and 49 shows on 17 stages. The festival takes place at Renaissance Park at 10542 E. state Route 73, Waynesville.
Made in Camp
Hosted in Camp Washington, Made in Camp is a community of more than 40 artists, galleries and makers who are all collaborating to host an open house Oct. 8. The event includes demonstrations by Camp Washington manufacturers. You’ll also get the chance to explore artist studios, maker spaces and the community’s creative manufacturers—including the printers, painters, welders, musicians and others who are able to take nothing and turn it into something.
BLINK
BLINK is the country’s largest light, art and projection mapping experience and is back for the first time since 2019. Venture downtown Oct. 13-16 to see a variety of artwork in a variety of mediums. BLINK aims to connect artists who craft their own unique environments within the Cincinnati cityscape. The event is intended to immerse attendees while also encouraging their imaginations.
Cincinnati Coffee Festival
“Without great water, you can’t have great coffee” is the motto of the Cincinnati Coffee Festival. Running Oct. 22-23, this festival brings together coffee and tea lovers from all over the region. The festival is the largest of its kind in the Midwest and serves as a fundraiser for the Ohio River Foundation. World-class roasters, coffee shops, purveyors of fine food and professional baristas will all be in attendance at this year’s festival. Guests will enjoy free tastings of coffees, teas, pastries, chocolates and foods while voting for their favorite brew in the People’s Choice event.
The event isn’t just about tasting coffee, though—it also brings in art with latte art demos. In fact, in 2022, the Cincinnati Coffee Festival will celebrate The Art of Coffee by inviting attendees to create their own coffee-themed work of art. The festival will provide the materials and guidance for attendees to create their works, and each piece can incorporate painting with paint markers and coffee beans for a 3D effect.
This year’s festival will be held at Music Hall at 1241 Elm St., downtown.
Tina: The Tina Turner Musical
Tina: The Tina Turner Musical takes place Oct. 25-Nov. 6 at the Aronoff Center. The show highlights the story of Tina Turner and her journey to becoming the queen of rock ‘n’ roll. Turner is one of the world’s best-selling artists of all times and won 12 Grammy awards. Tina: The Tina Turner Musical features many of her much-loved songs and is written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall and directed by the internationally acclaimed Phyllida Lloyd.
Howl-o-ween Hootenanny
The Howl-o-ween Hootenanny is a joint effort by ArtsConnect and the Powell Crosley YMCA. The Oct. 29 event will be a family Halloween celebration. Littles are encouraged to come dressed in a costume for trick-or-treating with local businesses before painting a mini pumpkin, participating in a scavenger hunt and wandering through the hay maze. Additionally, the event will have the Mystery Machine on-site for photos as well as costumed characters and a Halloween Pet Costume Contest. The free event starts on ArtsConnect’s front lawn at 9158 Winton Road in Springfield Township.
