The summer season is a great time to attend community events and build meaningful relationships. The Tristate offers a variety of ways to be creative this July and August, from immersive cooking classes to late night art museum events with live music and an exclusive art display, there are so many ways to bring friends and family together.
Throughout the year, the Cincinnati Art Museum welcomes community members to participate in creative and wellness events. One such event is the museum’s free Art After Dark event. It boasts a night full of art making, live music and artworks on display. The next event takes place July 31 from 5-9 p.m. and will feature Yayoi Kusama’s “All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins” for free with a reserved ticket.
My Masterpiece is a pottery painting experience in Norwood that offers open walk-in hours, group events and special occasions. All pots, mugs, plates or fun ceramic pieces are ready to be painted with no experience necessary. This is an easy and quick way to have fun with friends or family and walk away with a fully glazed and fired piece.
For those looking to get more advanced and throw clay on a pottery wheel, Queen City Clay in Norwood offers open wheel classes for adults and families to try out. These open wheels run for two hours and take place on Fridays and Saturdays. One pot is included per ticket as well as all supplies needed and an experienced instructor. Longer eight-week classes are also offered for those wanting to dive deeper into ceramics and the pottery wheel.
Located in Findlay Market, Tablespoon Cooking Company opens its kitchen to community members of all skill levels looking to build their confidence with cooking. Instructors teach classes on how to cook a variety of foods and work to make the experience fun and immersive. Each participant goes home with a menu booklet to recreate the meal at home and any leftovers from the class. Alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks are also provided with each ticket to make the class into a fun night out or weekend activity. In July, Tablespoon offers classes on Detroit Style Pizza, Spanish Paella and Summer Risotto. They offer a variety of different classes for vegetarians and gluten free eaters as well.
This summer the Cincinnati Public Library hosts a variety of in-person and online creative community events for all ages to participate in. Learn about magazine making at the Downtown Main Library on July 21 from 2-3:30 p.m. or attend a writing workshop at the Oakley Branch Library on July 18 from 3:30- 4:30 p.m. to talk about writing strategies or present personal writing to the group.
