Celebrate Independence Day at the Inaugural Newport Blast

Memorial Day may be the unofficial kick-off to summer, but the fun really gets going July 3 at the Inaugural Newport Blast

The Northern Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureau, dubbed meetNKY, Newport on the Levee and BB Riverboats are planning an Independence Day celebration unlike anything the region has seen before. Called “Newport Blast,” this brand-new carnival-themed celebration will be held at The Levee and give guests an opportunity to experience the spirit of Americana. The extravaganza will culminate with a Rozzi Fireworks and Drone Display at the end of the night.

“Newport Blast will be the perfect way to celebrate Independence Day Weekend in Northern Kentucky,” says president and CEO of meetNKY, Julie Kirkpatrick. “Visitors from both sides of the river are invited to enjoy the many restaurants, shops and unique places Northern Kentucky has to offer. Newport will be the premiere backdrop for an unforgettable weekend, and we are hopeful it will become everyone’s new Independence Day tradition.”

Immerse yourself in Americana culture as you navigate a scene of roaming stilt walkers dressed as Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty, live music by classic cover rock band DV8, juggling magicians, games, a stars and stripes inflatable side for children and so much more.

And the Fourth of July isn’t much at all without a hot dog eating contest, which will be featured at Newport Blast. Participants in the contest will compete to win a Levee Staycation prize package that includes a one-night stay at Aloft, Levee-branded swag and gift cards to businesses who call The Levee home.

Restaurants and eateries at The Levee will be open throughout the event so that you can enjoy all the entertainment district has to offer while you’re celebrating Independence Day. To-go drinks will also be available from bars at The Levee, including Beeline, Kon Tiki and 16 Lots.

For those who may want to enjoy the sight of it all from the water, BB Riverboats is offering three ticketed cruise options for the event. Ticket holders will have access to a buffet dinner before taking their seats for the fireworks show and musical entertainment.

“Fireworks are a time-honored tradition of summer, and we can’t wait to bring revelers together to experience this new spectacle in Newport’s Living Room,” says Cassie Pennington, Marketing Manager for the Levee. “Our team is so excited to have the opportunity to host the inaugural Newport Blast and can’t wait to make photo-worthy memories with guests from across the region.”

The Levee will be open from 5-10 p.m. on July 3 and BB Riverboat cruises will run from noon to 11 p.m. The Rozzi’s Fireworks and Drone Display will start at 10 p.m.

“We’re happy to host another great event for the community in our city,” said Newport Mayor Tom Guidugli Jr. “The riverfront community is now brimming with dining options and festivities. For all it has become, the best is yet to come for Newport.”

More information about Newport Blast and the full schedule of events can be found at its website. Tickets for the Newport Blast cruises can be purchased at BB Riverboats’ website.
