Make the most of the end of summer—or the start of fall—with these weekend events
Pumpkins are starting to appear on porches and in lattes, but summer is still hanging on in Cincinnati. Whether you’re clinging to the summer weather or ready to embrace the fall, there’s an event this weekend to suit the season.
The Cincinnati Art Museum’s free Art After Dark Fall Fiesta returns Sept. 29. This month’s Art After Dark event celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with live music from Mambo Combo and DJ Aikon, lessons from Volaré Dance and a cash bar. The event also includes free admission to the museum’s exhibit of Pablo Picasso’s landscapes, which is on display until Oct. 15.
Cincinnati’s “indie film festival for movie people” returns to Memorial Hall Sept. 29 and 30 with a number of film screenings, masterclasses and live screenplay readings featuring local actors. Founded in 2017, this is Cindependent’s first full festival since the pandemic, with two days of screenings and seminars for industry professionals and film lovers alike.
Halloween Haunt at Kings Island
The water park may be closed at Kings Island, but the scares are just beginning. The park’s Halloween Haunt is open Fridays, Saturdays and select Sundays through Oct. 28 for an extra-scary amusement park experience. Visit the transformed park for the Halloween mazes, scare actors and night rides that caused Halloween Haunt to be voted USA Today’s “Best Theme Park Halloween Event” last year!
Four weeks into its two-month run, the Ohio Renaissance Festival is going strong. Visit Waynesville for jousting, minstrelry and a historically good time. This weekend will have a special steampunk twist—Time Travelers Weekend.
