Support nonprofits while indulging your green thumb at these sales 

The last frost date is just around the corner (the Farmer’s Almanac predicts April 23 for the last frost of the season) so, for many of us, that means it’s time to start thinking about gardening. Many local garden centers are opening their doors, but another option for plant lovers is the region’s many plant sales. In addition to offering a wide variety of plants, these sales often support local nonprofits, too. We’ve found four upcoming plant sales that all gardeners should be adding to their calendars.  

Civic Garden Center’s Plant Sale 

Online sale is live, in-person event May 6 9 a.m.-2 p.m. 
The Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati, 2175 Reading Road, Cincinnati 

The Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati is again offering a month-long online sale along with its in-person event. Every dollar spent at the sale goes toward the center’s core programs, including the Community Gardens program, school gardens and youth education, and Treeforestation. 

Cincinnati Nature Center’s Spring Native Plant Sale 

Saturday, April 22 – Sunday, June 4 
Rowe Woods Visitor Center, 4949 Tealtown Road, Milford 

The Cincinnati Nature Center’s sale will feature herbs, perennials, flowering trees and shrubs that can assist our local pollinators and other wildlife.  

Tecumseh Land Trust’s Native Plant Sale 

April 22, 10 a.m.-noon 
Glen Helen Nature Preserve, 405 Corry St., Yellow Springs 

North of Cincinnati in Yellow Springs, the Tecumseh Land Trust is holding its annual plant sale. During the event, you can buy new, native plants, many of which have been donated by others.  

Cincinnati Zoo Native Plant Sale 

April 22, May 6, May 20, Sept. 9, Sept. 23 & Oct. 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 
Bowyer Farm, 2210 Mason-Montgomery Road, Mason 

The Cincinnati Zoo’s annual Native Plant Sale will be held throughout the year in 2022, with the first sale in April. The zoo says that the sale features many well-grown, hard-to-find and ecologically important plants. The sales are free to attend, but advance registration is requested.
