Bucking the Stereotype

 Bucking the Stereotype

Provision Living Senior Living Communities has several locations in the area, including one in West Chester.

Local retirement communities offer top-notch amenities, care

If you still think of retirement communities as unwelcoming, clinical places, you’d be surprised to learn that today’s communities are nothing of the sort. Today’s leading communities focus on comfort, enjoyable amenities and unintrusive ways to monitor residents’ health. We checked in with two local communities to see what they’re doing that bucks the stereotype of the “nursing home.”

Provision Living at West Clermont

Provision Living at West Clermont in Batavia is a retirement community that focuses on the comfort of its residents, offering independent living, assisted living and memory care options.

“It’s all about giving them the best experience and the best quality of life that we can possibly give them,” says Sarah Ford, regional sales specialist with Provision Living.

Provision has a system called Foresite installed in its assisted living and memory care apartments that helps identify subtle changes in the residents’ health. A little detector senses movement around the apartment so it can alert nurses right away if there is a fall or any other issue. There is also a sensor that is attached to the resident’s bed that detects many of their vitals. “It’s really helped us be really proactive over the last couple years in detecting COVID cases within our communities. It’s almost like having an extra pair of eyes,” says Ford.

Ford describes the facility as very elegant but comfortable. “It’s not a place where you look like you have to have a dress code,” says Ford. The community has a movie theater, fitness rooms and a dining room with chef prepared meals. It also has a café where residents can participate in happy hours and socials.

“I like to call it the cruise ship on land for seniors,” says Ford. “There’s always something to do.”

Anthology of Blue Ash

Anthology of Blue Ash is a retirement community that puts an emphasis on convenience and community and offers independent living, assisted living and memory care options.

Anthology’s goal is to provide its residents with a unique living experience.

Anthology’s services and amenities include an indoor pool, a garden patio and a golf simulator. The community has an elegant dining room where in-house chefs prepare fresh and delicious gourmet meals every day. Anthology also provides snack and food options 24 hours a day.

The community’s location provide residents with access to shopping, medical centers and cultural venues, as both Summit Park and the Blue Ash Golf Course are nearby.

Finding the right retirement living arrangement can be daunting, but this sampling of options is a good starting point.
