College Hill offers guests shopping, dining and a look into Cincinnati’s Past

Located approximately six miles north of downtown Cincinnati, College Hill features a compact business district and walkable residential streets, making it easy to explore in a single day. 

Hamilton Avenue, the neighborhood’s main commercial corridor, offers visitors a natural path in which to explore the neighborhood. Coffee shops open early and stay open well into the afternoon, including Luminary by La Terza, where house-roasted coffee and breakfast sandwiches draw a steady weekday and weekend crowd. Shops such as these offer ideal spots to grab a cup of coffee before the day gets started or take a respite in the middle of your trip.  

Nearby, visitors can spend hours browsing the district’s mix of boutiques and neighborhood services. Brick storefronts and historic façades reflect the area’s late-19th- and early-20th-century development and recent reinvestment has brought new tenants into renovated spaces along the avenue. For lunch, options range from casual to sit-down dining. Marty’s Hops & Vines serves sandwiches, salads and rotating specials, while Bacalls Cafe offers American-style fare in a traditional dining room setting. 

In the afternoon, visitors may take time to explore nearby residential blocks, where Victorian and early 20th-century homes line tree-shaded streets, offering a look into Cincinnati’s architectural past. Dumele Park and the College Hill Recreation Center provide green space and walking paths and Mount Airy Forest is a short drive away as well. For those looking for a nightcap, Brink Brewing Company is a neighborhood brewery with a rotating tap list and indoor seating.
