Loveland to celebrate 150 years as a city in 2026 

The City of Loveland will mark a major milestone in 2026 as it celebrates its 150th anniversary with a yearlong slate of community events, historical reflections and special programming designed to bring the community together. 

The sesquicentennial celebration will feature both new initiatives and familiar city events to honor Loveland’s history. A commemorative city flag, selected through a community-wide contest, was officially unveiled at the Nov. 25 city council meeting. The flag will be displayed throughout the anniversary celebrations.  

Looking to the past and future, the city recently uncovered a time capsule buried more than a century ago. Although water damage limited what could be preserved, officials called the discovery a “fascinating discovery.” What’s more, to continue celebrating 150 years, Loveland will create a new time capsule to be placed at the future Nisbet Park amphitheater. Among the other planned celebrations is a special baseball game at Phillips Park in the spring, featuring guest players, commemorative jerseys and free food, along with a family-friendly “Touch a Truck” experience. Residents and visitors will also be able to explore Loveland’s history through an interactive walking tour available via a mobile app. 

In addition to the new events that the city has planned, Loveland’s signature events will also celebrate the milestone. City favorites such as the Hearts Afire event, Memorial Day and Independence Day celebrations and the Christmas Tree Lighting, will incorporate sesquicentennial elements. The sesquicentennial will culminate in the Mayor’s Ball in September 2026, a formal event featuring live music, Rozzi’s fireworks and Tano’s catering. 

Sponsorship opportunities for residents and businesses will be announced in early January, offering ways to participate in and support Loveland’s historic year.
