'Tis the season. The schedules are set and the calendar chocked full. It's time for students to attend high school open houses.

For parents, it's a great time to gather information and get a feel for their future environment. And when it comes to these next four years, you can't be too prepared. So we asked top administrators at schools around the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for the top 10 questions you should ask. Check out their suggestions below:

  • Does the school have a particular educational philosophy or mission?

  • What type of student is the school looking for?

  • What is the average class size?

  • How is technology used to support teaching and learning at this school?

  • What extracurricular opportunities (sports, clubs, community service, competitions) are available?

  • What professional development opportunities do teachers have? In what ways do teachers collaborate?

  • What are some of the school’s greatest accomplishments? What are some of the biggest challenges this school faces?

  • What makes you different from other schools in the area?

  • How do you keep parents informed of activities, homework and events? How – as a parent – do I get involved?

  • What percentage of students go to university? Do they get accepted to their first choice college ?
