Q. WHY A FLORIST SHOP FOR YOUR SECOND ACT IN LIFE?
A. “One of the reasons I got into this business (after many years on WEBN radio as part of the morning Dawn Patrol) is that my husband used to buy me the traditional dozen red roses and baby’s breath for every floral holiday. Frankly, I would have vastly preferred a bunch of spring flowers or at least roses in some sort of interesting color. Not wanting to hurt his feelings, I decided I’d better just do it myself, so I opened the shop.”

Q. WHAT MAKES FOR THE MOST ROMANTIC BOUQUET?
A. “A small bunch of wild, or wild looking, flowers, mysteriously left where they will be found before they wilt, with a provocative note.”

Q. WHAT ABOUT AFTER A COUPLE’S BIG FIGHT?
A. “A huge bunch of roses and a beautifully scripted note of apology. There is a plant called ‘Love Lies Bleeding,’ but it’s pretty hideous and would certainly scare off your loved one for good.” Q. IS THERE EVER AN INAPPROPRIATE TIME TO GIVE FLOWERS? A. “I can’t think of a single person who wouldn’t love to receive flowers — certainly on a special occasion, preferably just out of the blue for no particular reason.”

Q. WHAT’S THE CLASSIEST CHOICE?
A. “A single stem of something, beautifully wrapped and hand delivered.”
