Alzheimer’s disease is rapidly becoming our nation’s newest health care epidemic. Without a cure, families across the Greater Cincinnati area struggle with knowing what resources are available and what steps should be taken with someone they care about.

Fortunately, since 1987, the Alois Alzheimer Center in Greenhills has offered innovative care and personalized service for those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. As the nation’s first residential care facility dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, the Alois Center has earned exceptional survey results and industry leading family satisfaction scores while demonstrating its commitment to excellence.

It is easy for family members to find themselves overwhelmed with the daily requirements of continuous monitoring and care associated with supporting someone still living at home. Unlike other facilities with Memory Care Units, where “one size fits all,” Alois provides seven unique levels of care specifically designed to meet an individual’s ever-changing needs.

For those not yet ready for placement in a care facility, Alois’ Adult Enrichment program provides a good entry point for receiving additional support, care and services. Adult Enrichment participants enjoy a wide range of outings, such as visits to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, a Red’s game, or a cruise on B&B Riverboats; other group activities and services include visits to Alois’ beauty and barber shop. Operating seven days a week, this program offers the peace of mind that comes from knowing a family member is in a safe environment.

As Adult Enrichment participants adjust to the environment and establish valuable connections with others, many families periodically take advantage of Alois’ Respite Care program. This temporary-stay program offers full-time care on a short-term basis.

One caregiver recently shared her view on the value provided by Alois’ Respite Care: “I lost many nights’ sleep worrying about my mother and what would be the best care for her. The Alois Alzheimer Center felt like ‘home’ during a 30-day respite care. For the first time since her Alzheimer decline, she seemed happy and content…”

Alois’ specialized service is substantial. For those looking for permanent placement, the facility offers Assisted Living and four additional levels of Skilled Nursing care. The Alois care team is led by board-certified physicians, psychiatrists and pharmacists, as well as a host of other highly trained staff members.

While visiting, families can enjoy walks along spacious corridors and four secure outdoor courtyard areas. Surrounded by Winton Woods, these courtyards provide the beauty of the warming sun, cool breezes, wildlife and the delight of the changing seasons. Residential living areas allow families the opportunity to add meaningful touches to provide a resident with their own personalized sense of belonging.

Whether benefiting from its Adult Enrichment program, Assisted Living or one of four distinct Skilled Nursing levels of care, Alois Alzheimer Center provides the perfect setting for residents, family members and its guests. For more information or to schedule a tour, call 513-605-1000 or go to
