For the second time in 33 years Robert H. Lyons is once again working alongside a close family member at his West Chester law firm.

Robert worked with his father, Robert D. Lyons, for 14 years, from 1990 until he retired in 2004. Now Robert is working with his daughter, Kara Lyons, who joined the law firm of Lyons & Lyons in November.

“I thoroughly enjoyed working with my father and hopefully she’ll say the same,” says Robert.

Kara says she does enjoy working with her father and she’s not afraid to learn from his experience. “I have no qualms asking questions about things,” she says. “Usually he has the answer, which is very helpful.”

After his father retired, it looked like Robert would not be working with a close family member again. That’s because Kara had chosen sports marketing as her major at the University of Tennessee.

It wasn’t until her senior year of college, says Kara, that she realized that sports marketing wasn’t what she wanted to do for a career. “I realized I wanted to use my brain more to actually work and help people,” she says.

That seed to help people was probably planted years ago when she heard what people said to her father, she says. “People would come up and were always thanking him,” says Kara. “He’d always help so many people.”

Robert says he was a little surprised when his daughter told him that she wanted to become an attorney. “I didn’t really anticipate it,” he says. “However, I do remember she did really enjoy To Kill a Mockingbird in junior high. I always thought that was the driving force.”

After she told her father about her plans to become a lawyer, Kara says, “He did everything he could to help me come to the conclusion that that’s what I wanted to do.”

Now Kara is working in the same area of law that both her father and grandfather worked at one point—wills, trusts, probate, estate planning, financial and retirement planning, and elder law.

“I have also been doing estate planning for 35 years,” says Robert. “It’s something my father did when he practiced with me. So it’s an area that we’ve been doing here for years and years.”

Other areas of practice include criminal defense—with a concentration in the areas of driving under the influence and traffic cases—criminal defense in state, local and federal courts, personal injury, auto accidents, medical malpractice, domestic relations, business, and real estate.

Potential clients should choose Lyons & Lyons because of the firm’s stability, says Robert. “I’ve had an office here in West Chester since 1983,” he says. “We are here for those people in the West Chester and Liberty Township area. We’re local. We really do care about our clients.”

The firm also cares about the community, says Robert. “We have always been community oriented and involved in the community through youth sports, through involvement in the church and charities and fundraisers. We’ve always felt it was important to give back to the community.”
