When the Cleveland division of the Drees Co. needs brochures featuring one of its new home designs, it goes directly to the source: Drees' printer, Bramkamp Printing in Winton Place.

The Drees team in Cleveland can simply click on the Bramkamp web site designed for Drees and order up as many brochures as they need. Bramkamp calls it online ordering and print management, and it markets the service as one of its "integrative print solutions."

"We'll house their artwork so they (the print clients) can edit, make changes and submit orders for reprints online," explains Larry Kuhlman, a managing partner at Bramkamp.

Bramkamp is an example of how an established Cincinnati company can change and grow with the times. Founded by William Bramkamp in 1921, the company was located on Sycamore Street for nearly 80 years. When three partners purchased the Bramkamp in 1961, they installed one of the first Heidelberg presses in Cincinnati.

In 1998, Kuhlman and Kevin Murray purchased the balance of the company. They moved to a 20,000-square-foot facility on Gray Road in 2000, which now includes a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster print system.

Providing expanded levels of service is the way for progressive printers to go, according to Kuhlman. Customers are increasingly interested in one-stop shopping from print houses, beyond the standard print and bindery services.

"Clients are interested in mailing and distribution as well," Kuhlman says.

Bramkamp is keen on giving its customers what they want, according to Holly Maynard, marketing floor plan coordinator for Drees Homes.

"They're personalized, and I would consider that a service," Maynard remarks. "They take the time and care that everything's done right."

Print customers can personalize their services through the printer's variable data applications, Kuhlman said. In the past it was cost-ineffective for print runs of direct mail pieces to be tailored to different market segments. With digital printing, customized changes and smaller print runs are affordable.

As database management continues to get more sophisticated, printers must to be able to keep pace with the specialized demand, he notes.

Bramkamp also offers full electronic prepress, commercial offset printing, print-on-demand, digital color printing, foil stamping, embossing and die-cutting.
