Remember your best summer ever? With school winding down, kids will rush into summer with endless energy, but it won’t take long for summer boredom to set in. 

That’s why the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati has prepared a variety of programs and activities that will stimulate both mind and body.

“Children need an outlet to play and learn throughout the summer,” says Jorge Perez, the Y’s president and CEO. “From day and overnight camps, to swim lessons, youth sports and enrichment opportunities, we are ready to support children discover their true potential and create a Best Summer Ever memory.”

To help jump-start summer plans, the Y invited children and their families to Healthy Kids Day, a free afternoon of fun, at Parky’s Farm on April 28.

Along with a climbing wall, bounce houses, relay and obstacle courses, fitness classes, face painting, visits with farm animals, tractor rides, and more, families had the opportunity to learn about other summertime youth and adult development activities.

This summer, the Y will host day and overnight camps that provide kids with adventure, healthy fun, personal growth and friendships.

The camps are meant to take what could be a so-so summer and turn it into a life-long memory. The Y also offers specialty camps that focus on sports, horseback riding and even drama.

Gymnastics and youth sports can inspire Olympic-size dreams and healthy habits. Even during the summer, the YMCA will host gymnastic classes, team sports and swim teams.

Swimming also continues to be an important part of the summer experience, so it’s the ideal time for swim lessons. The Y’s low-cost, high-quality swim lessons are designed to build strong and confident swimmers. The classes are intended for all ages and abilities and they teach fun, water safety and skill building. In addition, kids will find spending time at the Y’s various pools, waterparks and splash pads to be a great way to stay cool during summer’s heat.

Summer also is a great time for adults to get fit, make friends and reach goals. The Y’s many fitness classes include boot camp, cardio, yoga, cycle, dance, Silver Sneakers, kickboxing, step, tai chi, TRX, barre, strength training, zumba, water aerobics and more. Fitness can reduce stress and tension, improve health and strengthen your well-being and self-esteem.
