Encore Performing Arts Center is a place where everyone is a star.

From ballet to vocals, Encore’s wide variety of class choices and the experienced instructors who teach them ensures that there is a good fit for anybody at any age. Formerly known as Encore Dance Center, the business’ new and larger location, along with a new name, now accommodates and showcases everything Encore has to offer. Located in Fairfield Township, the center welcomingly opens its doors to the community to teach fundamental lessons, and to share the love for the arts.

All instructors at Encore are university-trained professionals with a variety of backgrounds and teaching styles. Encore works to place kids in classes that match their age, personality and goals in order to inspire them and help them reach their full potential. Terri Shaffner, director of Encore Performing Arts Center, has been in the dance industry for more than 30 years. Her goal is to offer more opportunities to the students of Encore.

“We just really try to offer as much dancing for the kids and the community as we possibly can at an affordable cost,” says Shaffner, adding that because Fairfield schools are big on promoting the arts, Encore tries to add to that.

Children as young as age 2 can start exploring the world of dance through Encore’s “Mommy & Me” class. This class introduces toddlers to music and creative movement, while providing parents the opportunity to participate in learning and share class time with their kids. Preschool-age children can participate in special classes that are a combination of tap, ballet and tumbling. The center offers training for dancers who aspire to compete on the Encore Dance Team, as well as lessons for the recreational dancers who enjoy dancing for fun. Class choices at Encore include ballet, point, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, tap, clogging, musical theater, tumbling and more. Adults can enjoy the adult tap class and adult yoga class. Vocal training lessons are a new addition to the center, and Encore is getting ready to start providing piano classes as well. There truly is something for all ages and interests at Encore.

Principal features of Encore include age-appropriate material in chorography, costumes and music. Smaller class sizes at Encore ensure that children can receive personal attention to better develop their skills, and have more fun. Their new 7,500-square-foot facility features four dance rooms, with one being double in size. Also included is a professional floating dance floor, which serves to prevent fatigue and prevent injury. Providing a strict discipline of training, in a fun way, is an important concept of Encore.

“We try to offer a positive atmosphere and train the kids in a way to help build their confidence and self esteem,” says Shaffner, adding that anybody who would like to visit the center and bring their little ones to try a class for free is always welcome.
