CKS Solution Inc.
Plasma TVs Are Their Business
CKS Solution Inc. re-manufactures and repairs plasma television screens made by such well-known electronics companies as Philips and Samsung.

Founded two years ago, the firm plans to more than double its staff of 26 this summer. “CKS Solution selected a Greater Cincinnati location because the transportation network provides low-cost, two-day access to 60 percent of all U.S. plasma television owners,” notes Andy Kuchta of the Clermont County Office of Economic Development. “CKS Solution moved into a 72,000-square-foot facility in February 2008, and by June 2008 it exceeded revenue projections by nearly 20 percent.”

The plasma screen repair market is a highly specialized segment of the electronics manufacturing sector, Kuchta adds, and few engineers are equipped and skilled enough to do it.

BAE Systems
Driving the Armored Vehicle Market
BAE Systems — a leader in vehicle armor technologies for light, medium, and heavy tactical vehicles, add-on armor kits and accessories for a full range of tactical vehicles, combat vehicles and construction equipment — is the largest supplier of commercial armored vehicles to the U.S. government. The company also produces advanced materials and ballistic glass in its Cincinnati facility, which is headquarters for BAE Systems’ Security & Survivability Systems division.

Locally, the company created 286 new jobs in 2008 (and 700 new jobs the year before), making it the fifth largest employer in Butler County. This local growth allowed the company to expand its product offerings and invest in new technologies.

“We invest in the research and development of innovative armor solutions that address the latest threats faced by our customers in the governmental, defense and commercial sectors,” says Tony Russell, president of the security division.
