Champion Window
Splendor in the Glass
Usually, the words “break” and “through” aren’t ones a window glass company wants to hear, but Champion Window Manufacturing & Supply Co. LLC is thrilled to be a “Biggest Breakthrough” Manny winner.

Champion — which custom manufactures and installs replacement windows, entry doors and patio rooms — has, um, championed a lean supply chain effort, implemented and refined over the past five years. These new manufacturing processes have saved time, labor and money through the purchase of ergonomic equipment, improved safety and operational flexibility.

The firm’s continued success is also attributed to their factory direct business model, according to company president Donald Jones.

Middletown Tube Works Inc.
Facing Down a Challenge
Middletown Tube Works Inc. — which manufactures welded steel tubes for high-tech applications within industries such as HVAC, appliance, automotive, mining and packaging — had a problem.

Facing a projected 25 percent decline in sales last year due to increased competition and fewer opportunities in the niche markets that the company serves, some decisions had to be made: Retrench, or spend. Cut back, or invest in the future.

Middletown Tube Works formulated a strategy to expand into new markets. The company acted quickly to purchase millions of dollars in new, higher tech equipment, a move that doubled existing production speeds and allowed the firm more ability to customize products for new customers.Tammy Graham, Marvin Phillips, Paul Anderson, Dan Engle, Angela Phillips, Duane SulskiCOMPANY: Middletown Tube Works Inc.

Amano Cincinnati Inc.

Clocking In at Record Time
Founded more than 100 years ago as Cincinnati Time Recorder, Amano Cincinnati Inc. was purchased by the Amano Corp. Japan in 1991.

After Amano acquired the company, it moved its California operations to Cincinnati. In order to accommodate the merger, Amano Cincinnati needed to simultaneously double its space, workforce and output.

“To overcome obstacles in absorbing the time clock line, Amano Cincinnati worked with TechSolve in implementing Toyota Production Systems (TPS) to eliminate overburden, inconsistency and waste,” says vice president of manufacturing Kash Gokli. The firm reconfigured work stations and introduced ergonomics to reduce fatigue and stress for its employees.
